There aren't enough candles to mourn a genocide

This textile installation is a visual act of mourning and resistance. It features two printed fabric panels of the same image: a veiled figure holding candles, barefoot on soil. The back panel shows the image in full color, while the front reinterprets it in red and green—the colors of the Palestinian flag—invoking a layered reading of grief, erasure, and the distortion of grief under prolonged violence.

At the base of the installation lies a mound of soil topped with the remains of burned candles, their wax slowly melting over the course of the exhibition. Installed in an external gallery at Sergels torg—Stockholm’s historic site of protest—the work transforms personal mourning into public witness, confronting viewers with the persistent weight of unacknowledged violence.
