To talk about this project is to talk about my childhood.
It’s talking about broken bones, Dr. Michel, tonsillitis, bronchitis, breathing pumps, rhinitis, sinusitis, inhalation.
Emergency rooms, hospitals, wards, scraped knees, bandages, bruises, homeopathy, more inhalation.
It’s talking about a childhood very well spent. To the extreme. With all the bumps, bruises, tears and broken bones (once again).
A childhood with mercury dripping down my knees and elbows and colored bandaids all over my body. It’s about dislocations, stitches and various scars.
It’s about love. Of being cared for.
To talk about this project is to talk about my adolescence.
Talking about the bruises of a clumsy girl, chronic rhinosinusitis, sprains and injuries. It’s talking about a tumor in my femur and three surgeries on my knees. Oncologists, physiotherapy, hospital, migraine, TMJ deviation, IVs, pneumonia, deviated septum. Traumas. Surgeries. More scars (not always visible).
It’s talking about a body that isn’t perfect. It’s about crazy diets and the (frustrated) search for a body that follows the standard. It’s about personal acceptance. Stretch marks, cellulite, colored hair, piercings, tattoos, scars and understanding the importance of all this in building me as a person.
It’s about MRI scans, contrast injections, post-surgery and sudden changes. About loves, places, moods and thoughts.
It’s exposing all these “defects” and turning them into art.
It’s exposing my traumas and my insecurities. It’s exposing myself to talk about weaknesses that aren’t mine alone.
It’s trying to create poetry out of pain, without the presence of pain.
It’s talking about choices and liberation.
It’s nostalgia. And it tastes like inhalation.
And I still like it.
